Development Centre and Lady Shri Ram College is organizing a workshop
entitled Teaching Gender on 5 and 6 September 2011 at the Institute of
Lifelong Learning.
Gender is included in all disciplines of Humanities and Social Sciences in Delhi
University but the teaching tools are not necessarily available to address the gender
component of these disciplines. The workshop that we propose for college teachers
would try to raise questions regarding the gendered nature of social science
‘knowledge’. The first step would be to establish that, it is indeed gendered, thus a
critique of some conventional texts and theories could be undertaken to establish this
point. Understanding and teaching of gender requires an interdisciplinary perspective,
training in one of the disciplines may not equip the teachers adequately. So, it is
important that we include perspective of other subjects for analyzing, understanding
gender and assimilate that in our own discipline.
The workshop is open for University and college teachers as well as research students. A
registration fee of Rs. 300/ only has to be paid by the participant and submitted along
with attached form, latest by 1 September 2011.
